Northern and Western Regional Assembly (NWRA) Region

The NWRA covers eight counties – Galway, Roscommon, Leitrim, Sligo, Donegal, Monaghan, Mayo and Cavan and works closely with the nine local authorities (Galway City Council and Galway County Council cover one county) who manage these counties.

The NWRA is one of the three Regional Assemblies in Ireland. It was created alongside the Southern Regional Assembly and the Eastern and Midland Regional Assembly by the Local Government Reform Act 2014.

The NWRA has a unique regional perspective. Stretching across eight counties and one city (9 local authorities), nearly 1 million people, 62,000 businesses and boasting over 45,000 3rd level students.

The Regional Assembly enhances the region’s competitiveness by managing the Northern and Western Regional Programme 2021-2027.

The NWRA is comprised of 24 elected Members with 21 nominated by the 9 local authorities within the region and 3 from the Committee of the Regions.
