Northern Periphery and Arctic Programme

The NWRA provides the contact point in Ireland for the Interreg Northern Periphery and Arctic (NPA) 2021-2027 Programme.

Programme Summary

The NPA is a European Union funding programme for transnational cooperation, it supports transnational co-operation projects.

The eligible area includes Ireland (Counties: Donegal, Leitrim, Cavan, Monaghan, Sligo, Mayo, Roscommon, Galway, Clare, Limerick, Tipperary, Kerry and Cork), designated parts of Sweden and Finland as well as the Faroe Islands, Greenland, Iceland and parts of Norway.

The Interreg NPA programme has three main priorities:

  1. Innovation Capacity Strengthening the innovation capacity for resilient and attractive NPA communities.
  2. Climate Change and Resource Sufficiency Strengthening the capacity for climate change adaptation, and resource sufficiency in NPA communities.
  3. Cooperation Opportunities Strengthening the organisational capacity among NPA communities to make use of cooperation opportunities.’

The programme builds on the strengths of communities living in remote and sparsely populated areas in the northernmost part of Europe and the Arctic. It encourages effective cooperation, to maximise place-based development. NPA projects find innovative solutions to improve the quality of life of people living in the programme area. Grant funding rates of up to 65% are provided.

The programme’s vision is to help generate vibrant, competitive and sustainable communities, by harnessing innovation, expanding the capacity for entrepreneurship and seizing the unique growth initiatives and opportunities of the Northern and Arctic regions in a resource efficient way.

NWRA EU Funding Network

In 2022, the NWRA launched the EU Funding Network. The network provides capacity building and project support for all stakeholders in the region. The NWRA EU funding network provides concise and up to date information on funding opportunities and is aimed at public and private sector entities, NGOs and Communities.
