ERDF Scheme:
Technological University (TU) Research and Innovation Supporting Enterprise (RISE) Scheme.
The purpose of the scheme is to establish, strengthen, and systemise research and innovation offices in the TU’s to enable engagement with local and regional enterprises and community stakeholders.
The Higher Education Authority has worked closely with the MA and the beneficiary (Atlantic Technological University) to ensure a comprehensive project start up. In this, the HEA has formalised with ATU a formal quarterly reporting process to provide feedback on progress (against indicators), expenditure (in advance of declarations), risks and mitigation measures, and progress against horizontal principles and alignment with the smart specialisation strategy.
For the educational component of the scheme, ATU received 3,000 PhD applications, of which 400 went to interview, and from which 60 have been selected. These PhD students will later go on to undertake placements with enterprises.
