The Objectives of the Smart Regions scheme is to drive job creation/ retention and enterprise development in line with the Smart Specialisation Strategy and the regional enterprise plans.
The scheme is split into four streams which aim to; 1) support DACs/ CLGs to construct and/ or upgrade local infrastructure projects, 2) support innovation clusters and consortia to maximise the benefits of collaborative opportunities, 3) support service to SMEs to develop and drive innovative solutions, and 4) support the investigation (priming/ feasibility) of new projects for detailed preparation of more advanced projects (refer back to point 1).
This Scheme is designed to support projects which will help develop functioning ecosystems in each region to support entrepreneurship, start-ups, and scaling companies, primarily Microbusinesses and SMEs through the provision of appropriate infrastructure and key staff resources to deliver innovative solutions including support programmes).

Enterprise Ireland is actively receiving, assessing, and where applicable, awarding funding under the first call of the Smart Regions scheme and for each of the 4 streams.
